Kohima Science College celebrates 63rd College Foundation Day cum Annual Alumni Lecture Series- II

Kohima Science College, Jotsoma, celebrated its 63rd College Foundation Day cum Annual Alumni Lecture Series-II today.

In the welcome address, R. Moasangla Jamir, Vice Principal, Kohima Science College expressed that this day not only celebrates the founding of the institution but also reflects on its growth, development and achievements. She reminded the audience of the principles with which this college was built on and the vision laid by the founders which is to stand as a beacon of knowledge, innovation and holistic development of the students.

The keynote address was delivered by Rhosietho Nguori, Vice President of the Alumni Association, KSCJ. He stated that this gathering symbolises the remarkable journey this college has gone through. The endurance and achievements are the testimony of this remarkable institution, he added. “The Alumni Association of KSCJ is a vibrant network of professionals, advocates and friends all united by the sheer goal of fostering a legacy of excellence and with it to remain engaged and proactive in order to mentor the next generation of students.”

Nguori also mentioned that many of the alumni gathered has ventured into different paths and excelled in their paths however, the morals instilled by this institution has remained strong in all of them. The Alumni Association was formed in the year 2007 and since its formation has been making significant contribution to the student community, he added.

Imkumlong (Class of 2012), Associate Professor, Anthropology Department serenaded the audience with an amazing rendition of Frank Sinatra’s ‘My Way’.

The first panel talk on the topic “Cracking Competitive Exams” was moderated by Abeinuo Jasmine Ashao, NCS, an alumna of the college. After introducing and listing out the various accomplishments of each three panelists, they all made their way up to the stage in the following order: Shanavas C, IAS; Cherakung Zeliang, IFS and Sashiwapang Lanu, IRS.

The first panel session commenced with all the three panelists speaking about the journey they experienced into becoming the person they are today. The students were advised to branch out and take risks, be courageous and unafraid of treading into unknown territory. The panelists, each with their own set of experiences in a wide array of fields, stressed on crucial time management, self-trust, self-care and being humble. They all also emphasized the importance of discovering one’s self and finding out their purpose in life.

The second panel talk was held later in the afternoon and was moderated by Wenyitso Kapfo, HOD of Botany Department, KSCJ. The panel was conducted on the topic “Entrepreneurship in the 21st Century”. The panelists were Toinali Kinimi, business owner and founder of Beauty Barn; Richard Belho, renowned architect and co-founder Zynorique Initiatives; and Watila Longkumer, founder of Naro Ki.

Each panelist came equipped with extensive knowledge on each of their fields, leaving all students in attendance inspired and motivated. “Take ownership of your life, take 100 percent responsibility of your life, start putting yourself in uncomfortable situations”, Toinali Kinimi stated, encouraging students to commit to their passions.

An alumni of KSCJ (BSc, Batch of 2000), Watila Longkumer through her talk emphasized the importance of passion for serving the people to become not only a successful entrepreneur, but also a valued and functional member of society. “I started my business with my heart, not with my mind” she stated.

“When you face stressful situation you are levelling up in life, and when the going is smooth you are going downhill”, said Richard Belho during his talk, summing up the risk-filled nature of the journey that is entrepreneurship.

The panel discussion was concluded with an interactive Q&A session.

The vote of thanks was addressed by Nchumbemo Humtsoe, Finance Secretary Alumni Association KSCJ. He expressed his heartfelt gratitude and appreciation to all who worked tirelessly to make this event a grand success.
